This Week August 30, 2022

 Dear Folks,

Please pray for rain!

Thank you so much for your generous donations of school supplies for Church World Service and our own Shelton schools.  60 school kits will be sent off for distribution around the world.  Local school folks were overwhelmed with the supplies which were delivered on Monday.  The collection is ongoing, so please be mindful of that as you shop.  Our generosity makes a difference. Thank you!!

The Wednesday, August 31 Concert on the Green is the last one for the summer.  Thank you to everyone who helped out and donated.

If you are interested in singing a guitar anthem once a month during worship, please come to an organizational choir meeting/practice this Thursday, September 1, 7 P.M. in the sanctuary.  It will be fun!

This coming Sunday, September 4, is the Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost.  We will be celebrating Holy Communion.  The scripture is Philippians 4: 4-9.  The sermon is "Rejoice and Give Thanks", which is the 2022 Auction Sermon.  The service will be on-site and live streamed.

Sunday is the deadline to sign up for our September 11 Church Picnic.  Reservations are required. Please sign up either in person at Sunday worship (sign-up sheet in the Alcove) or contact the church. The cost is $6 per person or $12 per family.  You can prepay or pay the day of the picnic.   Worship will be at 11 A.M. followed by the picnic.  We will be in the lower parking lot near the kitchen.  Please wear your HCCUCC T-Shirts and bring a chair.  The service will also be live-streamed.  There will be no 9:30 A.M. worship.  Hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks provided; please bring a side dish or dessert to share. Rain or shine!

We are in the final few weeks of our Season of Generosity which culminates at our “In-Gathering” Sunday on September 25. Our theme is “What HCCUCC Means to Me”. Please consider thinking and praying on this topic, jot down your thoughts and feelings, and send them to Rev. Lucille to be used in a Sunday service.  Thank you!

VALLEY REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT PROJECT – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!  A well vetted and needy refugee family is waiting to find safe haven! Our church's VRRP group has moved forward with full funding, team organization, and potential housing in place!  All we need is YOU!  We need a few more team members to meet requirements to proceed.  For more info, please contact the church.

Clean-up buckets are needed after the recent devastating floods. Women’s Fellowship is asking for monetary donations for Church World Service to assemble and ship these buckets for distribution. Checks may be made out to HCC with “Buckets” on the memo line. You can drop your donation in the offering plate on Sundays or you can use the on-line option on our website. The need now is urgent. Thank you for your generosity.

Please continue to support HCCUCC with your contributions.  Now more than ever, our mission of being the beacon of love and light on the Huntington Green and beyond is vital. Contributions sent in by mail are welcome. You can also donate on our website, www.huntingtonucc.org. Electronic Fund Transfer giving is also available. Please email the church, hcc@snet.net if you would like a form to set that up. Any way you give is a blessing and is greatly appreciated.

Let us pray.  O God, may you offer us strength when we are weary, wisdom when we are confused, hope when we are hopeless, and love, always love.  Amen.

In Christ's name,

Rev. Lucille

URGENT! Women’s Fellowship is collecting items for Church World Service school kits.  Items needed are 12-inch rulers, pencil sharpeners, erasers, and single subject notebooks.  Examples are in the Alcove, also a box for your donations.   The need in our local schools is also great, and we have been in touch with Perry Hill School (5th and 6th grades) to understand what they need.  Items needed:  Backpacks, 1-inch binders, wide rule notebook paper. If they have an overflow, they will be offered to other schools in our town. With gas and groceries being so high, it is difficult for some families to furnish these supplies for their children. With school beginning the first week in September, time is of the essence, so please bring items in as soon as possible. Thank you!

Interested in singing monthly at worship with Rev. Lucille on the guitar? Then please come on Thursday, Sept. 1, 7 p.m. in the sanctuary for an organizational meeting/practice.  Let’s make a joyful noise!

Please sign up by September 4 either in person at Sunday worship (sign-up sheet in the Alcove) or contact the church. The cost is $6 per person or $12 per family.  You can prepay or pay the day of the picnic. Wear your HCCUCC T-shirt and bring a chair! Let us pray.  O God may the refreshing rains fall upon parched lands and the warmth of the sun dry up where there was deluge.  Give us the will, the strength, the courage, and the wisdom to make changes, no matter how small, to heal our earth.  Amen.

In Christ's love,

Rev. Lucille
