Dear Folks,
Greetings today on this dreary,
warm, and muggy day! Hmm, the calendar says October,
but...
This evening, Tuesday, October 9
at 6 p.m., the Umbrella
Center for Domestic Violence Services invites all to join for a
candlelight vigil honoring victims and supporting survivors of
domestic violence on the Huntington Green. In the event of rain,
the vigil will be held in our Fellowship Hall.
On
Wednesday, October 10, the Valley Interfaith Council invites all to
a screening of the National Geographic film, "Jerusalem".
Following the film will be a panel discussion with three
representatives of the world's three major religions. This event
will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at Center Stage, 54 Grove Street,
Shelton. Admission is free, but freewill donations are
welcomed. Refreshments will be served.
This Sunday, October 14, our
Season of Generosity, "Overflowing Joy, Abundant Generosity"
continues. Sue Lindley will be sharing during the Moment for
Generosity. The scripture is Psalm 95. The sermon is "How Do
We Keep Joy Alive?"
During worship on Sunday, we will
be taking the "Neighbors in Need" offering. Neighbors in Need (NIN)
is a special mission offering of the United Church of Christ that
supports ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United
States. One-third of NIN funds support the Council for American
Indian Ministries (CAIM). Two-thirds of this offering is used by
the UCC's Justice and Witness Ministries (JWM) to support a variety
of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, and direct service
projects through grants. Neighbors in Need grants are awarded to
UCC churches and organizations doing justice work in their
communities. These grants fund projects whose work ranges from
direct service to community organizing and advocacy to address
systemic injustice. This year, special consideration will be given
to projects focusing on serving our immigrant neighbors and
communities.
Sign-up sheets are in the Alcove
for our two upcoming training events: Tuesday, October 16 at 6:30
is the Narcan Training. This event is free of cost.
Saturday, October 20 is the AED/CPR training at Noon. This
event is $25, $30 if you want a book. Both of these trainings
are very important, so please make every effort to attend.
Please take note of the poster in
the Alcove with suggested items for the Valley Food Bank bin in
Fellowship Hall. Of course, all items are gratefully accepted,
but the Missions Committee put together a list that attempts to
target items that may be needed more during certain seasons or
months. The need is great, so please be generous!
Fundraiser: The Huntington Center
Nursery School is holding an Otis Spunkmeyer cookie dough & Lyman
Orchard Crisps fundraiser! Orders will be taken through October
19th. Delivery will be November 2nd.
See any Nursery School Committee member or the office for order
envelopes and more information and support our nursery school.
The Pumpkin & Holly Fair will be
here before we know it, November 16th & 17th.
Watch your future bulletins for more information or contact
co-chairs: Terri Johnston, Jaqui Olivo, Judy Tucker, Justine
Connery.
Let us pray. O Holy One,
may you open us up to appreciate all the diverse facets of your
creation. May we seek and find beauty in everyone and
everything. Amen.
In Christ's love,
Rev. Lucille
