What crazy weather!  Stay dry and safe!

This Sunday, September 30, is the Nineteenth Sunday After Pentecost.  The scripture is James 5:13-20.  The sermon is "It Takes A Village".

Following worship, there will be a meeting of potential confirmands and their parents/guardians in the library.  Diaconate and Christian Education will also be meeting.

Our "Season of Generosity" starts on October 7.  We will be celebrating Holy Communion.

Our next LEO (Let's Eat Out) will be Sunday, October 7, following worship and coffee hour, at Longhorn Steakhouse on Bridgeport Ave.  Please sign up in the Alcove.

Sign-up sheets are in the Alcove for our two upcoming training events: Tuesday, October 16 at 6:30 is the Narcan Training.  This event is free of cost.  Saturday, October 20 is the AED/CPR training at Noon. This event is $25, $30 if you want a book.  Both of these trainings are very important, so please make every effort to attend. We do need a minimum number of people for each training, so it is important that you sign up if you want to attend.  Thank you!

Please take note of the poster in the Alcove with suggested items for the Valley Food Bank bin in Fellowship Hall. Of course, all items are gratefully accepted, but the Missions Committee put together a list that attempts to target items that may be needed more during certain seasons or months. The need is great, so please be generous!

The Huntington Center Nursery School is holding an Otis Spunkmeyer cookie dough & Lyman Orchard Crisps fundraiser! Orders will begin October 5th – 19th. Delivery will be November 2nd.  See any Nursery School Committee member or the office for order envelopes and more information and support our nursery school.

Umbrella Center for Domestic Violence Services invites all to join for a candlelight vigil honoring victims and supporting survivors of domestic violence. Tuesday, Oct. 9th 6 pm on the Huntington Green. In the event of rain, the vigil will be held in our Fellowship Hall.

Let us pray.  O God, no matter how gray the skies or how wounded our hearts, help us to always see and feel the promise of your eternal love and care.  Amen.

In Christ's love,
Rev. Lucille

This Week September 4, 2018

Dear Folks,

I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend!  Summer sped by so quickly!

This coming Sunday, September 9, is the Sixteenth Sunday After Pentecost.  The scripture is Mark 7:24-37.  The sermon is "Be Open".  Aaron Corcino will be sharing his music talent with us.  And, our own James Bruni will be back, dipping his foot in the musical water!  It's also James' birthday on Sunday, so be sure to wish him a happy one!

Connie Glenn, one of our Parish Nurses, will be presenting a workshop on Advance Directive Planning following worship.  “Let’s Talk – Let’s Plan” is the overall theme for this workshop.  We’ll discuss what happens if you or someone you are close to is in an accident, suddenly becomes ill , or for some reason cannot communicate. What are your wishes and how would you like to be cared for?  What are the wishes of your loved one and what would they want?  Patterned after the “Five Wishes” program, during this brief workshop, we will discuss beginning steps that each one of you can take to make those wishes more of a reality.  Talking and planning and having the ‘hard conversations about the “what if’” can really not only be helpful but can be comforting as it opens the door toward better understanding. Please join us for this important topic!

Our Outdoor Worship and Church Picnic will be on Sunday, September 16, 11 A.M. at Pemberley (the parsonage, 160 Huntington Street), rain or shine!!!  Please bring your chair, blanket, and a dish to pass.  Hot dogs, hamburgers, beverages, paper products, and condiments will be provided.  We are asking for $5 per person, $10 per family to help defray the cost.  It's always a great time, so be sure to come!

Following worship on September 23rd, the Shelton & CT State Police will be presenting a safety seminar for our congregation. Please plan on joining us for this informative program.

There will be a meeting of potential Confirmands and their parents/guardians following worship on September 30th.

Please take note of the poster in the Alcove with suggested items for the Valley Food Bank bin in Fellowship Hall. September's item is toilet paper. Of course, all items are gratefully accepted, but the Missions Committee put together a list that attempts to target items that may be needed more during certain seasons or months. The need is great, so please be generous!

HCCUCC Women’s Fellowship will be participating in filling the Gifts of the Heart school bag kits in the spring of next year. Since school supplies are now readily available and reasonable, please help us fill our goal of school kits by donating one or more of the following items: ~ 3 spiral notebooks (70 count) ~1 pair blunt scissors (rounded) ~ 1 hand-held pencil sharpener ~ 6 new pencils w/erasers ~ 1 12” ruler (30 centimeters) ~1 box 24 crayons (only 24) ~ 1 large eraser. Please leave any gifts in the CWS Box in Fellowship Hall.

Let us pray.  O Holy One, breath into us all a new sense of wonder for the amazingness of your creation, of your people, of your presence.  Sweep away our jadedness and fill us with joy!  Amen.

In Christ's love,
Rev. Lucille
