I hope you find a bright spot in this otherwise dreary day!

 

This coming Sunday, April 2, is the Palm Sunday.  The scripture is Matthew 21:1-11.  The sermon monologue is "Walking Along with Jesus".  We will be celebrating Holy Communion, so be sure to have your elements handy.

 

Please note our Holy Week schedule:  Maundy Thursday, Tenebrae at 7:45.  Good Friday, April 7 - service at noon.  Easter, April 9 - Sunrise Service at 6:15 a.m. Jones Family Farm, service at HCCUCC 9:30 a.m.  Tenebrae, Good Friday service, and 9:30 a.m. Easter service will be Facebook live-streamed; links will be sent out later.

 

We are so pleased to have our lovely Syrian family in our Valley and settled into their apartment in Derby. Thank you to all who make this possible! Continued support with your time, talents, and treasures is greatly appreciated!

Funds for Clean-up Buckets Needed - Women’s Fellowship is collecting monetary donations for Church World Service Clean up buckets. Checks may be made out to HCC with “Buckets” on the memo line. You can drop your donation in the bucket on Sundays or you can use the on-line option on our website. The need now is urgent.

 

The Valley Food Bank at Spooner House - Items Needed: shelf stable milk and powdered milk, pancake mix and syrup, peanut butter and jelly, canned fruit and applesauce, garbanzo and navy beans, canned tuna and chicken, oatmeal and other cereals, and pasta sauce.  There is a box in the Alcove for donations. Also, our Blessing Box needs to be stocked, but during the winter, please do not put canned or jarred items, only things that won’t freeze. Please be generous!

This coming Sunday, March 26, is the Fifth Sunday in Lent.  The scripture is Luke 8:1-3.  The sermon is "The Other Mary". 

 

From Women's Fellowship - Thank you to everyone who helped make the Corned Beef Dinner such a success.  Whether you set up, prepped food, cooked, served, cleaned up, bought a ticket, invited friends or made a donation, you were a part of raising $600 toward the church’s operating budget.

 

We are so pleased to have our lovely Syrian family in our Valley and are still in the process of getting them settled into their apartment in Derby. Thank you to all who make this possible! Continued support with your time, talents, and treasures is greatly appreciated!

This coming Sunday, March 19, is the Fourth Sunday in Lent.  The scripture is Exodus 20:1-17.  The sermon is "Take Two Tablets". 

 

We will be taking our One Great Hour of Sharing Offering this Sunday. OGHS special mission offering of the United Church of Christ involves you in disaster, refugee/immigration, & development ministries around the world. When disaster strikes, or people are displaced or made refugees by violence or extreme poverty, you are part of the immediate response & of the long-term recovery. Because the UCC relates in mutual partnership to churches & organizations through Global Ministries & worldwide response & recovery networks, your contributions to OGHS put you in the right place at the right time for the relief, accompaniment, & recovery of the most vulnerable.

Women’s Fellowship’s Annual Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner is on Sunday, March 19th at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults & $8 for children 10 and under. Hot dog dinners: 2 hot dogs w/vegetables-$10.00; 1 hot dog w/chips-$4.00. Tickets will be on sale after worship. Proceeds will benefit the church’s Operating Budget!!!!

There are two Lenten gatherings happening on Wednesdays in Lent.  If anyone is interested, please contact the church via Facebook, email, or phone.


This coming Sunday, March 5, is the Second Sunday in Lent.  The scripture is Matthew 6:9-13.  The sermon is on The Lord's Prayer.  We will be celebrating Holy Communion. 

 

Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner -Women’s Fellowship’s Annual Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner is on Sunday, March 19th at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults & $8 for children 10 and under. Hot dog dinners: 2 hot dogs w/vegetables-$10.00; 1 hot dog w/chips-$4.00. Tickets will be on sale after worship, or you may call Linda Sember at 203-929-5853. Proceeds will benefit the church’s Operating Budget!!!!

 

Women’s Fellowship will be preparing & selling Manhattan & New England Clam Chowder plus a variety of homemade breads. To place your order, sign up on the sheet in the alcove or call Linda Sember at 203-929-5853. Pick-ups will be on Sunday, March 5th and Sunday, April 2nd. The Chowder is $12.00 a quart. The prices of the homemade breads vary.

Blessings on your week as our Lenten season begins.
Lenten Quiet Hour will begin on TOMORROW, February 22 at 10:30 a.m. in the library. The book is "Touched by Blessing" by Gunilla Norris.
Ash Wednesday Service will be held on TOMORROW at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary and Facebook live-stream. Imposition of the ashes will be offered. The live stream can be seen at https://www.facebook.com/HCCUCC.

This coming Sunday, February 19, is Transfiguration.  We will also be celebrating Scout Sunday.  All scouts and scout leaders are invited to wear their uniforms.  The scripture is Matthew 17:1-9.  The sermon is "More Than Meets the Eye".  The service is on-site and on Facebook live-stream.
