This Week October 3, 2017

Dear Folks,

It's getting to the point where I am afraid to look at the news in the morning.  Thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by the mass shooting in Las Vegas.  How long must we lament this continuing violence, O God?  Deep breath...

Our latest "LEO" (Let's Eat Out) will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, October 4, 6:30, at Archie Moore's in Derby.  If you plan to attend and did not sign up, please let me know ASAP so I can make reservations.

This Saturday, October 7, 2 P.M. at HCCUCC will be the memorial service for Susan Hawley Taylor, mother of Tom Taylor.

Our Season of Generosity starts this Sunday, October 8.  The theme this year is "Keep the Conversation Going..."  Our conversation starter is "Where do I feel closest to God?"  The scripture is I Kings 19:11-12.

Neighbors in Need (NIN) offering will be collected this Sunday, October 8.  NIN is a special mission offering of the UCC that supports ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States. Envelopes will be in the pews.  Donations may also be made through our website, www.huntingtonucc.org.

Umbrella Center for Domestic Violence Services invites all to join for a candlelight vigil honoring victims and supporting survivors of domestic violence on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 6-7 P.M. on the Huntington Green. In the event of rain, the vigil will be held in our Fellowship Hall.

I will be hosting my travelogue on my summer pilgrimage in England on Sunday, October 15 at 6:30 P.M.  Refreshments will be served, so come hungry!

Following worship on October 22, Women’s Fellowship will hold an All Church event on “Downsizing”. Watch your bulletin for more information.

We need your help to make the Pumpkin & Holly Fair (November 17 & 18) a success! Future Belfry articles will discuss the different areas of the fair where volunteers are needed, but it’s never too early to think about how you would like to contribute. Please contact the co-chairs: Terri Johnston, Jaqui Olivo, Judy Tucker, and Justine Connery.

Let us pray.  O God, may we never become apathetic to the suffering around us.  May our prayers be fervent and our actions be peaceful.  Help us to work for solutions, rooted in our faith in you.  Amen.

In Christ's love,
Rev. Lucille
